Hello I'm Bernie Kirkham of Waiheke Island, I am an acrylic artist based on Waiheke Island.
Imaginative and illustrative works of art are my forte. My paintings and distinctive styles emanate joy, freedom and adventure.
I'm a story teller and my paintings tell a story about the journey of life. I have been taking paint to canvas and creating for as long as I can remember!

My work has previously been and is regularly exhibited at ARTSELECT in Newmarket Auckland and the Little Galleries in Whangamata and Tirua and also 4Artsake Gallery in Ohope.
I enjoy creating art that is different, quirky and the fun. My work is crafted with acrylic paint on canvas.
I often muse over an intriguing woman with flying red hair who has frequented my paintings since I began painting and selling my work in the early 2000s.
More recently I have experimented with large scale acrylic abstracts. My work is constantly changing and evolving, as I get bored with a certain genre and move on to new challenges.

As soon as I saw this art of Bernie’s “My Journey Begins”, I knew “she” was meant to be with me.
I am a gypsy at heart and this piece certainly resonated. I love the radiant colour combinations and the surrealism of the flying bathtub. Bernie’s imagination has given life to this piece where you can feel the wind stir.
She had centre stage in my modern beach themed apartment in Melbourne, where she looked brilliant with all the aquas and cream furnishings. However, now I have moved into a more classic Art deco apartment, I love that she has a huge wall all to herself.
